Stephen Simmons (Simmo) Playing Wheelchair Basketball
Stephen Simmons (SIMMO)

I began playing at 19 years old (many years ago) for Sussex Wheelchair Basketball Club (original club see history ) in the Sabres team. My cousin, the late Tony Davis, got me into playing as he could see I would love the game as much as he did.

I played for 11 years until club dissolved then took an 8 year holiday whilst bringing up my son. Returning to the sport in 2003, I joined the Sussex Sonics after being begged (well asked) to return  by my lifelong friend Gary Gardiner (SWBC COACH).

Currently I am a 1st five player in our First Team in the second division South of the National League.

I enjoy helping other players (including my son) to develop their game by offering my humble advice tips & hints.

Playing assets:  Speed, manoeuvrability, plenty of match experience and a good shot (when on form !) and being small enough to appear in places opponents do not expect!.

Player position: Guard / Ball handler / G.D.B.

Favourite shot: (and OCCASIONALLY my  BEST SHOT) Hook from back door attack.

Playing Highlight: Scoring a FLUKE 3 point shot in my first ever game to win the match (and in the process getting myself addicted to Basketball)

Most embarrassing basketball related thing: Missing several Free Shots in a half time demo at a Harlem Globetrotters Match in front of all my team  (who were only watching not being volunteered!!) and several thousand spectators.
